Touring May & June 2011
The Keeper is a compelling new show which recaptures a series of dramatic events on a remote lighthouse island many years ago. These events have a profound effect on two sisters, daughters of the Second Lightkeeper.
Based on actual accounts of lighthouse life in the early 20th Century, The Keeper gives a mesmerising glimpse of a time and a life-style now gone. Dramatic, and at times gothic, this story is told with engaging, gentle charm and a wry humour as light is cast on a child’s secret. A tale of love, loss, and survival unravels.
The narrative is spun using a number of performance methods including song, storytelling, documentary comment, and table-top theatre using objects as puppets.
Chrissie Shaw is a seasoned performer and writer, who has collaborated with writer and director Penelope Bartlau to create The Keeper. Both are award-winning artists. Chrissie has won Green Room and Critics’ Circle Awards and Penelope won the R.E Ross Playwrights Award in 2007. These highly skilled artists combine to bring a gripping new show to Australian audiences.
