Press Release: Locals' Pass at Easter
Issued: 7 March 2008
EVERY resident in Colac Otway Shire is invited to the Cape Otway Lightstation for free during Easter and the school holidays.
Lightstation manager Paul Thompson said the locals’ pass, launched in autumn to coincide with the return of the whales, had been a success.
Mr Thompson said there had been a good take-up rate from locals, who found the pass a great opportunity to show off one of the region’s best-loved icons to visiting friends and family.
“The free pass is an acknowledgement of the fact that the local people have supported the Lightstation over the years, so now as the local landmark we want to give something back,” Paul said.
“It’s a good-will gesture so people can come down here and take a fresh look at the heritage precinct and all the improvements we’ve made in the last year.”
Mr Thompson said he received positive feedback from locals who didn’t realise how much there was to see at the Lightstation.
“People really enjoy exploring the historic Telegraph Station, climbing the Lightstation tower for the stunning views, and finding out about our war history at the refurbished World War Two radar bunker,” Mr Thompson said.
